“We hope to make people laugh,” said Stella Lee, the coordinator of the Happy Seniors Drama Group, as she combed one of her performers’ hair into an elegant bun decorated with colourful combs and ribbons.

The actors had arrived at Three Links two and a half hours prior to their performance to put on their elaborate costumes and get into character.

They performed The Four Beauties, a piece of musical theatre written by one of their volunteers in traditional Chinese style. The entire group of performers, writers, directors, and the MC are volunteers; they got together two years ago with the help of a small grant and began performing for seniors. They do their shows in both English and Cantonese in order to entertain as many seniors as possible.
